If I neglect to fulfill a promise, or let someone down, it can quickly overtake me as I use it as evidence that I’m not as good a person as I thought. Sometimes, it can be something I did wrong. I am slowly being transformed into an agent of destruction, because dwelling on the pain is recreating me. It begins to control the way I feel, and that leads to different behavior as I start to react negatively to others around me. If something is pressing me, it dominates my mind even as I’m doing other things. To dwell is to linger too long, and I can easily do that if my thoughts are being provoked by something that really bothers me. There are times in my own life when something negative happens, and I end up dwelling on it. It didn’t say, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is the world.” It said, “So is he.” In other words, your mind cannot change what is physically around you, but it change you-and that change can be positive or negative. There’s a proverb that says, “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” That’s the point. Either way, our experience is our reality. Our minds do not change the physical world around us, but our thoughts do determine the way we experience the world. Whatever dominates our thoughts and imagination is what we begin to feel emotionally. Whatever we think about becomes our experience.
